Summary
When calculating the total number of tiles required you
normally work in whole tiles i.e. any half tiles you use
count as whole tiles.
1. Measure the area in whole tiles
2. Calculate the number of tiles needed
Tools
Tape measure, sample tile,
wooden batten
Step 1 - Measure the area in whole tiles
Make a tile gauge by marking the width of the tiles, including
the grouting gaps, on a piece of wood. Use the gauge to calculate
the width in 'whole tiles'. Repeat this process to calculate the
height in whole tiles.
Step 2 - Calculate the number of tiles needed
With these two figures you can calculate the number of tiles you
will need. Allow 10-15 % for wastage.
